Summer Learning Journey Day 1 Activity 2 Week 1

Dear Darling Friend
We have been in this waka for days now. I am hungry and all I have to drink is the salty sea water from the side of the boat. My arms are aching from all the rowing. I feel exited moving to a new country but I am also going miss you. I hope to still write to you and I hope you get my letters and can write back to me once again I miss you.
From Amy

  1. Hey Amy,

You are off to an amazing start Amy, with very creative blogs posts. I really like how you have thought about how your arms might be feeling while rowing to New Zealand. I too would be tired but also excited about venturing to a new country. However, as it is the 1800's, there will be limited resources and building materials, so we would have to make a new whare (house) from scratch. I would hope my Dad would be travelling with us, as I am not very handy when it come to building. Have you thought about what you would use to make a house once you arrive in New Zealand?

    Have a lovely day Amy,
    Megan

  3. Hey Amy,

It is good to see you using a lot of descriptive language in your letter. I thought it was very nice you let your friend know how much you missed her. How long do you think it would’ve taken for your letter to get to her? Perhaps next time you could use Canva to publish your letter, they have some really cool templates that could make it look like the letters from the old days.

I really felt for you when you said you only had sea water to drink. I think that would make you even more thirsty since it’s so salty! I remember accidently getting a mouthful at the beach one time.. It was pretty disgusting and it dried my mouth out completely. I wonder if there is a way you could’ve drank water that wasn’t from the sea..
I hope to see more posts from you soon, don’t forget to comment on other blogs for encouragement and some extra points!

    Toe feiloa’i fo’i,

    Cia.

  4. Kia Ora Amy,

Cadence here from the Summer Learning Journey team!

Thanks for sharing a beautiful letter to your friend. Well done for getting creative about hunger, exhaustion, and lack of water. I would be terrified being in that position. No food, no clean water… probably baking in the hot sun... My goodness. Your friend must be very worried!

Well done for giving this your all Amy.

I can’t wait to read more of your blog posts! Keep up the great work.

    Cadence :)
